I love this recipe. so easy plus the peanut sauce is outstanding.
Hi Debbie, I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed it!
Thank you for being so giving. We are most appreciative. We have 2 questions, if we may…
1) Do you think we could make the peanut sauce without the maple syrup? How much do you think the flavor profile will change?
2) Have you ever made the peanut sauce with PB powder? (Of course you reconstitute with liquid) You may see the pattern here..we are cooking for someone who needs to eat very healthy and lose quite a bit of weight.
3) Admittedly, we didn’t look at the first sauce you use… The garlic, but could you explain why you use 2 sauces? Couldn’t you just put your yummy peanut sauce in the tofu without the first sauce? Inquiring minds would like to know. Lol
With appreciation
Hi! Yes, you can make the peanut sauce without maple syrup, it just won’t have any sweetness to it, so this is personal preference! No, I’ve never tried PB powder, but please let me know if you do try it! The first step isn’t a sauce, it’s olive oil, garlic and salt tossed with the cubed tofu then baked to cook it and make it crispy. You could add the peanut sauce before baking, but I’ve never tried it this way so can’t guarantee the result would be as good, but let me know if you try it out!
Thank you for responding. Much appreciated. Of course, we will be glad to try with the PB powder and let you know.
So to clarify, as we said we are cooking for someone who needs to eat healthy and needs to lose weight, could we just use the peanut sauce (without maple syrup lol) and omit the olive oil (they are sos free) and I think you said cornstarch? We don’t mean to alter your great recipes but need to take their needs into account, as to help them become healthy and happy]. Thanks for your help in doing so.
Yes, if you omit the olive oil the tofu will still crisp up a bit, just likely not as much. I recommend checking on it periodically as removing the oil may alter the cooking time. You could also try using a spray olive oil if you want to control the portion size. If you omit the cornstarch the tofu will probably still get crispy, just not AS crispy. And yes, you can omit the maple syrup! Like I said, I haven’t tried any of these modifications so can’t guarantee the recipe will be as delicious, but please let me know how it goes 🙂
