I don’t think I’ve ever loved chickpeas as much as I love these BBQ Chickpeas.

And let me tell you, as someone who’s been plant-based for over 10 years, I am a major fan of bean and chickpea recipes. So much so that I ate the entire batch of these barbecue chickpeas in one sitting… Which certainly wasn’t the plan, but they’re just that good.

They’re sweet, smoky, and saucy, aka the perfect flavorful addition to my Tasty & Healthy Easy Kale Salad, or any bowl or wrap. And did I mention how EASY they are to make?!

Why I Can’t Stop Making Them

As a Registered Dietitian, I love that these barbecue stovetop chickpeas are packed with protein and fiber, which means they’ll actually help keep us feeling satisfied, not hungry again in, like, 30 minutes.

And the best part? They come together in just 10 minutes, with zero chopping required, making them one of the easiest recipes ever and such a good easy vegan snack!

Best Ever 10-Minute BBQ Chickpeas

Coated in delicious BBQ sauce, these 10-minute pan-fried BBQ Chickpeas are made with canned chickpeas and are the perfect protein- and fiber-packed addition to any salad, sandwich, or wrap. This easy barbecue chickpea recipe also doubles as a high protein snack idea and good enough to eat the whole batch in one sitting!

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
  • 540 ml canned chickpeas, drained and rinsed

Equipment

Instructions

  • Start by draining and rinsing your canned chickpeas well. We want to make sure you remove all of the goop (aka, aquafaba) do you're left with just the chickpeas.
  • Heat a large pan over medium heat with 1 tbsp of olive oil. Add the drained and rinsed chickpeas to the pan, along with the BBQ sauce and garlic powder. Mix well to combine.
  • Let the BBQ start to simmer for about 7-10 minutes, until the BBQ sauce has reduced so there isn't much liquid left in the pan. We want this to be a low simmer, so if they start bubbling too much, reduce the heat to low.
  • Once the BBQ sauce has reduced and you're left with sticky chickpeas deliciously coated in BBQ sauce, remove from the heat and enjoy!
