This Vegan Peppermint Hot Chocolate is made with just a few simple ingredients and is the perfect cozy drink to enjoy during the holiday season (and even after!)

Once November hits, I drink some sort of vegan hot chocolate pretty much everyday. I love to coziness it brings to my day, and that it helps me avoid drinking an afternoon coffee!

Recently I’ve been loving this Vegan Peppermint Hot Chocolate. While I know there are so many amazing flavor combinations this time of year, peppermint chocolate has always been my favorite. I added peppermint extract to this recipe and topped it with candy canes for a festive touch!

If you want to make this a peppermint mocha, you totally can! Just add 1-2 shots of espresso, or replace half the plant-based milk with strongly-brewed coffee. I chose to top this with some coconut whipped cream and crushed candy canes, but you can also just make as-is. This recipe makes two servings if you’re enjoying it with someone else, but feel free to half the recipe for a single serving.

I heated the plant-based milk in a microwave then added to my blender with the rest of the ingredients, but you could also make this in a small pot on the stove and whisk together ingredients. A hand frother would also work well to blend the ingredients together!

Why I love this recipe:

  • It’s the perfect balance of chocolate, peppermint and creaminess.
  • It takes 5 minutes to make!
  • The hot chocolate can be made in a blender. You don’t even have to heat the milk if you have a high speed blender!
  • You can adjust the ingredient ratios based on your preferences.
  • It’s lighter than your average hot chocolate recipe, which makes it perfect for enjoying daily!

How to make this Vegan Peppermint Hot Chocolate

  1. Heat your plant-based milk in the microwave at 1 minute intervals until desired temperature (it took me 3 minutes total). You could also heat the milk on the stove top.
  2. Add all ingredients to the blender and blend on high until completely mixed.
  3. Serve with a dollop of vegan whipped cream (I love the So Delicious one!) and crushed candy canes and enjoy!

Recipe Notes:

  • To make this a peppermint mocha, just add 1-2 shots of espresso. You could also replace half the amount of oat milk with strong coffee.
  • If you want the hot chocolate to be less creamy, replace half the plant-based milk with hot water.
  • Feel free to adjust the peppermint extract, maple syrup and cocoa based on your preferences!
  • I heated the milk up in the microwave first, then added to a blender with the rest of the ingredients. You could also heat the milk on the stove then whisk together the ingredients, or use a small hand frother.
