I’m usually a savoury snacker, but every so often the craving strikes for something sweet, which is when I thank myself for batch prepping these Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Protein Balls!
They’re the perfect mix of sweet with the most delicious hint of vanilla, thanks to the protein powder, and with a chocolately chip crunch that’s so irresistable!
Plus, these protein energy bites are somehow still super healthy, which you know I love as a Registered Dietitian! They pack 5 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber per ball, without having to use any peanut butter, making them one of my favorite easy Dietitian-approved snack recipes!
With that being said, if you do love peanut butter, may I point you in the direction of my Oatmeal Cookie Energy Balls?! They’re just as fast and easy to make but have a peanut butter base! If you’re taking the food processor out anyway, you might as well make both!

The Protein You Use Matters!
‘Kay, I’m gonna be real with you, if you don’t love the taste of the protein powder that you have on hand, chances are you’re not gonna like it in these high protein energy bites, either.
BUT, luckily for you I’ve tested this easy energy bite recipe so many times that I have some hacks for you!
- Chill the energy balls before digging in! I’ve found that chiling them before eating mellows out the artifical sweetener taste that can be in some protein powders and makes them taste more like real cookie dough.
- Use an unflavored protein powder! This is a great hack if you seriously can’t find a protein powder that you like. I tested out using an unsweetened protein powder and found that adding an extra tablespoon of maple syrup and a splash of vanilla extract made them taste even better!
Have a protein powder that you love? You’ve gotta try it in my High Protein Blueberry Kale Smoothie! I swear adding a delicious vanilla protein powder to this recipe seriously makes it taste like a blueberry muffin!
