Bowl with wilted kale with nutritional yeast and a lemon.

Friends, I bet you never thought kale could be so delicious, but I swear, I couldn’t stop eating this sautéed kale and garlic straight from the pan!

I know, I know, kale isn’t always the first thing you think of when you hear delicious, but this kale is sauteed in garlic and olive oil so it becomes softer, then is smothered in nutritional yeast, lemon juice and a drizzle of soy sauce to make the most savory, mouthwatering kale side dish!

As a Registered Dietitian, it probably doesn’t surprise you that I have a ton of recipes made with kale, and I love them all (like, hello, have you tried my Tasty Kale and Tofu Salad?!), but this one is perfect for those days when you feel like getting in a good dose of greens.

Oh, and did I mention it only takes 5 minutes to make!? So if you’re looking for a quick, warm kale recipe, I’ve got you covered!

So What Levels Up This Sautéed Kale?

Drumroll, please… Nutritional yeast! Nutritional yeast adds the most umami-packed flavor to this dish while also making it sort of cheesy. Seriously, my mouth is watering just thinking about it.

I tested this recipe both with and without nutritional yeast, and can confidently say that the nutritional yeast levels it up, like, a hundred notches, but if you don’t have any on hand you can skip it!

I love pairing this kale side dish with some brown rice and my Smoky BBQ Tempeh – All the flavors work so well together.

Wondering What Type of Kale To Use?

Amazing question! I recommend making this recipe with curly, or lacinato kale, but I’ve also tested it using both dinosaur kale and baby kale it’s still delicious!
